It’s officially cold outside, which means your pups need extra care to keep them safe during those brisk morning walks. We know you love your furry friends, so here are a few ways you can keep walks fun while also protecting their cute paws and fur.

Rinse-Off Pads When They Come Inside

There can be salt and other substances on the ground when walking your dogs out in the snow. Try to rinse off their paws when you get home to protect their paws from harm.

Avoid Sweaters For Long Haired Dogs

While those cute sweaters are a winter favorite, long-haired dogs can quickly get matted, and their fur might need extra care. So try to avoid sweaters, and if you need a little extra grooming this season, we are always happy to help! Treat your pet to a spaw day. They will love it.

Keep The Leash Short

With snow on the ground, it’s a lot harder for your dogs to pick up on smells that would guide them home if they got lost. So make sure you use your leash and keep it short, so you can keep your furry friend close and safe.

Protect Them From Heaters

Your dog wants to stay warm too, but exposed heaters and fires can be dangerous. Use gates, radiator covers, and other deterrents to keep things cozy without your pet potentially getting burned.

Try To Keep Things Sunny

Winter still has sunshine, so try to take walks during the sunny parts of the day. This helps warm things up a bit, and we know that vitamin D is excellent for you, too.

Keep It Cozy

Spoiling your pup with cozy blankets, heated bed pads, and doggy beds are great ways to help your pooch stay warm and snuggly during the cold winter months.

Protect Dry Skin

The winter months can be hard on your dog’s skin. Try to add moisture to paws and skin using coconut oil or other moisturizers.

Keep An Eye On Hydration

Your dog needs lots of water even in the winter, so keep up on that water dish and ensure they have access to water inside and out of the house.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and that your furry best friend enjoys the fresh snow and fun. And we hope these tips on how to keep your dog safe this winter are helpful! If you need a little help with your pup during the day, we offer dog daycare and dog boarding, so they can play with new friends and have fun while you’re working to support their bone and squeak toy needs.
