HOW OFTEN (AND HOW) SHOULD YOU GROOM YOUR CAT?

Cats are known for their propensity and affinity for cleanliness. However, as a pet parent, you know that keeping an adequate grooming schedule is important for your cat’s health and hygiene.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GROOM YOUR CAT?

Your cat’s grooming habits help maintain their hygiene and overall health. Here are a few of the tasks you should do regularly to maintain your cat’s hygiene. Cat’s nails typically need to be groomed at least twice a month, while some of the other items on this list can be addressed on more of an as-needed basis.

BATHING

Although cats are proficient at keeping their fur clean themselves, sometimes a little extra help is needed. To get your cat’s fur especially squeaky clean and healthy, add in a bath to their grooming routine. We offer special add-on shampoo packages as part of our Grooming Spaw if that’s something you are interested in.

NAIL CARE

In order to be able to scratch, climb, and jump, cats rely on their paws. Take care of their nails by trimming and filing them regularly – sometimes as often as every ten days, according to the ASPCA. Want your cat to have some extra glam along with regular nail care? Ask about our Pawticure service – available as a walk-in service for those last-minute scenarios.

DENTAL CARE

Like humans, cats need healthy teeth too. Poor dental hygiene can cause other issues like gingivitis, receding gums, and even tooth decay if the problem is not addressed early enough. Make sure to check your cat’s gums for any irritation or inflammation and brush their teeth regularly to protect against gum disease. Not sure where to start or feel intimidated? Our team can include a dental cleaning and treatment as part of your cat’s routine grooming visit. We use special pet-safe toothpaste and even freshen their breath while we’re at it, too!

SPECIAL SERVICES

Aside from basic grooming services, sometimes your cat needs something a little extra. Got an outdoor cat that had an unfortunate encounter with a skunk? Our De-Skunk treatment is for you. Rid your cat of fleas with our De-flea treatment. Calm dry, irritated skin with our Medication Spaw package, or remove dead, matted hair with our De-shed add-on service. Although regular grooming maintenance can help prevent many of these issues, we know things happen! That’s why we include these specialized services to help you and your cat when you need it.
